ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
RK NARAYAN was born in Madras in 1906 and was educated at Maharaja's college in Mysore. His first novel "Swami and Friends" and the next one "The Bachelor of Arts " are both set in the fascinating imaginary territory of Malgudi. Narayan's work "The Guide " won him the Sahithya Akadami Award, the country's highest literary honor. Narayan has penned travel books, essays, memoirs,and has retold legends like "The Ramayana " and "The Mahabharata ".In the year 1980,he was honored with the AC BENSON medal by the royal society of literature. RK Narayan passed away in 2001.

SUMMARY OF THE BOOK:
Narayan 's childhood in Madras at his grandmother's house where he had a peakcock and a monkey for company.He narrates a few tales of those days when he lost some of his pets in various accidents. Narayan later moved to Mysore for his school where he was not academically inclined but has to put up with schooling because it was a rose-system in those days. Narayan's college days are enjoyable. He enjoys reading and discovers the pleasure of English Literature. After graduation he lands in the job of a teacher. At that stage he started writing "Swami and Friends "but he got rejected from almost every editors. So he started working as a newspaper reporter and eks out a income that is used for the material printing of "Swami and Friends ".He also shares his love story, he also talkes about the time in US when he visited the country at the invitation of the Rockefeller foundation. It was during the period he wrote "The Guide ",which was also made into a major Hindi feature film. My days is an intresting and compelling memoir of a literary genius.
